Throughout history, the largest changes in human behavior came from a change in beliefs; a change in what we believed to be acceptable and a change in what we admired as “success”.

By creating GameChangers 500 we are building aspiration for a new breed of organizations—organizations that define themselves as For-Benefit rather than For-Profit, and utilize business to not only make money but to also make the world a better place.

By promoting GameChangers 500 (GC500) at the world’s top universities, we’re helping redefine the type of company next-generation leaders aspire to join and create.

2. Creating a simple point system

As an organization, how do you showcase your success as a “force for good” business? As a job seeker, how do you differentiate the performers from the pretenders?

To help answer these questions, we researched thousands of For-Benefit companies from around the world to arrive at 9 best practice categories these “force for good” businesses followed. We then turned these nine categories into badges that organizations could earn as symbols of success in this new game—a new point system if you will.

To ensure this framework was easy to remember and follow, we organized these badges into the following three sections:

  • WHY the business exists: purpose is for-benefit, not just for-profit
  • HOW the business is run: practices that maximize benefit to people and the planet
  • WHAT impact the business creates: performance measured by depth & breadth of impact

Although this point system is more subjective than a point system purely based on revenue, it’s an effective way to differentiate the true For-Benefit organizations from the pretenders, and a great way to motivate organizations to excel in all 9 best practice areas.
