“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the old model obsolete.”

What is needed for the New Game of business to flourish so the Old Game becomes obsolete?

We're contributing to this shift in 3 ways

1. Making the New Game “cooler” than the Old Game

Throughout history, the largest changes in human behavior came from a change in beliefs; a change in what we believed to be acceptable and a change in what we admired as “success”.

Lists like the Fortune 500 have implied that success in business is based on maximizing revenue. By creating GameChangers 500 we are building aspiration for a new breed of organizations—organizations that define themselves as For-Benefit rather than For-Profit, and utilize business to not only make money but to also make the world a better place.

By promoting GameChangers 500 (GC500) at the world’s top universities, we’re helping redefine the type of company next-generation leaders aspire to join and create.

2. Creating a simple point system

As an organization, how do you showcase your success as a “force for good” business? As a job seeker, how do you differentiate the performers from the pretenders?

To help answer these questions, we researched thousands of For-Benefit companies from around the world to arrive at 9 best practice categories these “force for good” businesses followed. We then turned these nine categories into badges that organizations could earn as symbols of success in this new game—a new point system if you will.

To ensure this framework was easy to remember and follow, we organized these badges into the following three sections:

  • WHY the business exists: purpose is for-benefit, not just for-profit
  • HOW the business is run: practices that maximize benefit to people and the planet
  • WHAT impact the business creates: performance measured by depth & breadth of impact
Learn about the badges

The more badges you earn, the more of a GameChanger you are. Although this point system is more subjective than a point system purely based on revenue, it’s an effective way to differentiate the true For-Benefit organizations from the pretenders, and a great way to motivate organizations to excel in all 9 best practice areas.

3. Making the New Game easier to play

How do you use business as a “force for good” that maximize benefit to people and the planet? What legal model do you choose? What’s the best way to create a profit sharing plan for your employees? How do you become carbon neutral?

We publish the best practices of the leading For-Benefit organizations so other enterprises and entrepreneurs can access innovative techniques on topics like profit sharing, being a zero waste office, or writing a Theory of Change. Implement what you learn and move towards earning all 9 badges.

In addition to profiling the world’s top GameChangers in business, this website is also a database of Support Organizations that are specifically focused on supporting the construction of this new model of business. Legal services, staffing, environmental consulting, and certification companies are a few examples of the growing database of Support Organizations you can find on this website.

By making these best practices and support organizations easier to find, we’re making it easier for organizations to excel in this New Game.
